Beachy Head Lighthouse, finished in 1902 replaced Belle Tout Lighthouse which still stands on top of the cliffs. Due to its lofty location Belle Tout proved inadequate during sea mists so it was decided the new Beachy Head Lighthouse should be postioned on rocks down below.
